Arcona, the Swedish subsidiary of Veidekke, has been commissioned by Vallentuna municipality to renovate and remodel Vallentuna upper secondary school. The school building will be converted into modern premises suitable for students as well as for municipality employees.
Collaborative Design and Build Contract Worth SEK 190 Million
The collaborative design and build contract is worth approximately SEK 190 million, with the design phase already completed at an amount of around SEK 15 million. The project comprises the renovation and conversion of the approximately 9,000 m2 school building, a car park for employees, and a new rooftop building to house the fan room.
Co-Location of Municipality Offices and School Building
The idea of moving the municipality offices to the upper secondary school came as the municipality, while looking for new premises, was seeing that the current student body of 400 were unable to fully utilize a school building built for 650 students. The municipality hopes that the co-location of the municipality offices and the school building will result in more efficient use of the property.
Construction to Start Soon with Completion Expected in Autumn 2024
Arcona announced the contract for the design phase of the conversion in June 2022 and has now been entrusted with the actual production phase. Construction start is just around the corner, and planning and demolition work is already underway. Measures have been taken to ensure that the school can continue normal operations during the project period. Completion of the project is expected in autumn 2024.
Excitement and Readiness from Both Parties
“We are very happy to be able to sign the contract with Arcona to bring this whole exciting project to fruition,” says Magnus Sjögren, project manager at Vallentuna municipality. “We are excited that Vallentuna municipality has entrusted us with phase 2 of this collaborative project, which has many challenges and is not an easy one. We are ready for the task and look forward to starting production now,” says Jörgen Böhlin, project manager at Arcona.
In conclusion, the renovation and conversion of Vallentuna upper secondary school into municipality offices is a collaborative project worth SEK 190 million. The co-location of the municipality offices and the school building is expected to result in more efficient use of the property. Construction is set to start soon, and the completion of the project is expected in autumn 2024. Both parties are excited and ready for the task at hand.
